The allegation that the Holy Qur’an sanctions violence or terrorism is false.
Islam categorically rejects and condemns every form of terrorism. It does not provide any cover or justification for any act of violence, be it committed by an individual, a group, or a government. In fact, according to Islam, no religion can sanction violence and bloodshed of innocent men, women, and children in the name of God, since all religions came from God Who sent His prophets to create peace.
The word Islam literally means peace which is the antonym of terror.
It is the obligation of every Muslim to uphold peace.
A person following Islam will find that he or she is obligated to ensure that both the rights owed towards the Creator as well as His creation are fulfilled.
Critics often mistranslate or quote partially and out of context to deceive the readers in an attempt to show that the Qur’an sanctions violence. Qur’an repeatedly condemns those who create disorder and violence, and itself responds to such deceptions:
– ‘Eat and drink of what Allah has provided, and commit not iniquity in the earth, creating disorder.’ (2:61)
– ‘And they strive to create disorder in the earth, and Allah loves not those who create disorder.’ (5:65)
– ‘And create not disorder in the earth after it has been set in order…’ (7:57)
– ‘…create not disorder in the earth after it has been set in order. This is better for you, if you are believers.’ (7:86)
The only two groups that promote this myth in our society that the Quran teaches violence are anti-Muslim pundits and ISIS extremists.
